(Write your answer as a chemical equation. Identify all of the phases in your answer.)

Ionic Equations:

This kind of chemical equation usually contains dissociated ions corresponding to the electrolytes which made up the aqueous solutions. Spectator ions from this equation must be cancelled so that we can have a net ionic equation.

The given incomplete reaction is shown below.

eq m Fe(OH)_3(s) + H_2SO_4(aq) o ule0.5in0.3pt/eq

The products of this reaction are: iron (III) sulphate (which is present in solid form) and water (which is in liquid form).

The complete balanced chemical reaction is shown below.

eq m 2 Fe(OH)_3(s) + 3H_2SO_4(aq) o Fe_2 (SO_4)_3 (s) + 6H_2O (l)/eq

The ionic equation of this reaction can be shown by writing all the molecules in ionic form as shown below.

eq m 2 Fe(OH)_3(s) + 6H^+ (aq) + 3 SO_4 ^2-(aq) o Fe_2 (SO_4)_3 (s) + 6H_2O (l)/eq

Since, all the ions are present in solid or liquid size except sulfuric acid which is present in aqueous form. There are no spectator ions in this equation. So, the net ionic equation will be identical to the ionic equation shown above. Thus, the net ionic equation will come out as:

eq m 2 Fe(OH)_3(s) + 6H^+ (aq) + 3 SO_4 ^2-(aq) o Fe_2 (SO_4)_3 (s) + 6H_2O (l)/eq
